The Kashmir Curry Centre is a long established Sheffield curry-house run by Bsharath Hussein and his wife. It’s always been on the list of top places to get genuine Indian curry in Sheffield and due to the varied vegetarian dishes it is also a favourite for veggie or vegan diners, as well as seasoned curry pro's. Don’t let the cheapness put you off! The food is very good.

The Venue
Placed at the top of Spital Hill, just yards from another reputable Sheffield curry-house (The Mangla), the close proximity has always led to the two restaurants being compared. The Kashmir has upped its game somewhat in recent years. Both restaurants used to have the plastic chairs and drab wallpaper style, but now Kashmir has completely changed with a posh carpet and florally decorated chairs genuinely adding to the atmosphere.

The Atmosphere
A lot of people visit the Kashmir so don’t be surprised if there is a little wait. The relaxed atmosphere and mix of people in the restaurant means that anyone can stroll in, whether in a suit or trackie bottoms, and feel at ease. It has the busy feeling of a restaurant that has a lot of turnover but the service feels personalised and the owner will often speak to guests, welcoming new diners or catching up with one of the many regulars.

The Food
The new refurbishments led to a slight rise in price but even a starter, a main and a dessert will still only cost just over a tenner. Starters are great value, for £1.30 you can get a potato dish and even a mixed starter costs just £4. The curry is consistently good. New additions to the menu include little poppadoms curled into a cup shape and then filled and served with tamarind sauce. Meat curries can often be a let down but Kashmir delivers in this department. Whether it’s a chicken passanda or beef vindaloo these UK variations on Indian cuisine seem authentic.

The Drink
Kashmir allows diners to bring their own beers and wine. For a restaurant of this quality, this is a great move and saves your pennies for a future visit. Traditional drinks like lassi are also on offer.

The Last Word
The Kashmir has finally shed its rough around the edges image and quick turnaround mentality. In its new and improved guise it has made proud the loyal fans whose custom has enabled the restaurant to prosper over 30 years since it first opened.
