Plug is a massive venue which attracts top performers from all over the music spectrum. It’s a very popular club, both for students and its regular clientele, and has an excellent UK-wide reputation when it comes to having a great night out.

The Venue
Plug is just along from The Moore on Matilda Street. It has three themed rooms: Earth, Live and Neutral. Neutral is, in fact, a club in its own right and can be sectioned off from the other two rooms. The whole venue has a 1440 capacity for club events. The inside is decorated in a graffiti style drawings that depict wires running around the walls and they have invested in some very impressive light displays and lasers. There’s also an enclosed smoking area out the back of the club with a proper seating area.

The People
Plug is a very diverse club which attracts a wide range of people. Because of the differences in the rooms there is a healthy mix of styles. The bar staff are all quite happy and upbeat, a few can be seen jigging around behind the bar at the quieter moments. It’s a very hassle-free atmosphere, in general, and the bouncers are present without being intimidating, which keeps everything running smoothly.

The Music
Plug has a very diverse music policy. Earlier shows start from 7pm and showcase achingly cool indie bands or touring acts, whilst, later on at the club events, you are just as likely to see superstar DJs playing house and D&B as you are to hear some residents’ playing bassline or minimal techno.

Deadmau5 and LJ Freeman are two of the guests to have played at Plug. As well as these guests, Plug has put on a number of A-list guests, including Eric Prydz, Erol Alkan, High Contrast, Sasha, Mylo and ShyFX to name but a few. There are several different branded events at Plug. Jump Around is a mixture of 00s and 90s anthems, indie and dirty electro house (each genre is in a different room). Live deals, quite inevitably, with the live bands and artists, and Shuffle is the event for the big house jocks. All of these nights rotate and sometimes change which days they are on so it is best to swot up on what’s on before you head down.

The Drink
Drinks are pretty standard, there aren’t any cocktails available. They have all the usual spirits and mixers and a range of alcopops such as VK’s and WKD’s. They also have pints such as Fosters and Stella, and you can get bottled beer as well. Drinks prices depend on which night is on, but you should be able to take advantage of offers on certain drinks, like £1.50 bottles of beers and vodka mixers.

The Last Word
Plug offers an excellent night out, but if you are fussy about the type of music you want to listen to, you should check exactly what’s on before you go. There is a massive variety, which helps to keep it fresh and interesting, and the reputation Plug has made for itself amongst punters and performing artists means they keep coming back for more.
